Consultant for the Danish Center for Particle Therapy
The Danish Center for Particle Therapy (DCPT) is seeking a consultant in clinical- or radiation oncology with experience in radiotherapy/proton therapy. The position is a combined position at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy, Aarhus University Hospital and a position as clinical professor at Aarhus University.
Start date of employment is expected 01.05.2026 or by appointment.
DCPT is a national center that provides high-quality proton therapy to all relevant Danish cancer patients. The center is an independent department under Aarhus University Hospital. DCPT has a cyclotron, three treatment rooms, a research room, dedicated CT- and MRI scanners and treatment planning facilities.
The leader group at DCPT consists of the medical director, the chief medical physicist, the head radiation therapist and the head of research. In addition, there is a staff of five full-time consultants, one full-time staff specialist, three physicians on 20% contract shared with other radiotherapy clinics and approximately 80 other staff members, including physicists, radiation therapists, treatment planners, radiographers, secretaries etc.
The physician will have daily functions related to patient selection, treatment planning, proton therapy, follow-up, treatment of adverse reactions and chemotherapy during the course of proton therapy.
In collaboration with the DCPT staff, the physician is responsible for the treatment of all patient categories. DCPT has a close cooperation with the referring oncology clinics and the Danish Multidisciplinary Cancer Groups (DMCG). The physician must collaborate with colleagues from these institutions in referral of patients, at national video conferences and in implementation of new technologies and treatments at the DCPT.
DCPT is an internationally leading research center in proton therapy. Most patients at DCPT will receive their treatment as part of clinical research. In addition, DCPT has research programs in the biology of protons and the development of new technologies in proton therapy. The research is in close interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers, medical physicists, nurses, biologists, radiographers, engineers and technicians.
A consultant with experience in radiotherapy/proton therapy is sought. Applicants with experience in proton therapy will be preferred.
The consultant is expected to work 50% of the time with clinical function and 50% in research related to proton therapy. In clinical function, the consultant will have daily functions related to patient selection, planning and treatment of patients, including treatment of side effects and administration of chemotherapy during the course at DCPT. In research, projects will involve development, implementation, performance and evaluation of treatment strategies, and involves both clinical and medical physics research activities.

DCPT provides resources for training in various aspects of proton therapy.
