The Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University Hospital is looking for an epidemiologist to work on clinical breast cancer epidemiology. The position is for three years and will start 15th August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About the Department of Clinical Epidemiology
Department of Clinical Epidemiology is a highly specialized research department working with clinical epidemiology at an international level. Our mission is to contribute to improved diagnostics and treatment and thus improved patient prognosis. We seek to fulfil our mission by four means:

About the job
The position will involve both research and teaching responsibilities. The clinical specialist will work closely with other epidemiologists, clinicians, and statisticians, and with national and international collaborators.
The position is within the field of clinical epidemiology, specifically within breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship. The position covers two main areas. First, research focusing on aspects of adherence to breast cancer treatment; side effects and complications of breast cancer and its treatment; and how these may influence quality of life, long-term survivorship, and breast cancer recurrence. The research includes investigating pharmacological, genetic and socioeconomic factors and adherence to cancer treatment; employing advanced epidemiological methods including emulated target trials, group-based trajectory modelling, among others. Second, the position entails coordination of approvals and agreements related to use of biological material for research projects; applications to access data from Danish registries and databases; organization of courses in epidemiology at Aarhus University in collaboration with the course lead.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and dynamic multinational and multidisciplinary team (the Predictors of Breast Cancer Recurrence – ProBeCaRe – project team) with established successful long-term research collaboration. The successful applicant will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality.
 

Your job responsibilities
The main tasks within research will consist of: 
•    Research in clinical epidemiology, specifically within breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship.
•    Collaborate within an active research group with national and international collaborators.
•    Teaching and supervision of students at the Aarhus University and its collaborators at undergraduate and graduate level. 
•    Take part in grant writing and participate actively in research fundraising.
•    Publish high-quality research in international peer-reviewed journals. 
•    Present research findings national and international scientific conferences and meetings.

The main coordination tasks will consist of:
•    Applying to ethics committees for use of biological material and medical record data.
•    Coordinating the retrieval and return of tumor tissue from pathology archives at hospitals.
•    Making applications as needed for access to Danish population-based and medical registries.
•    Helping to organize teaching courses offered by the Department of Clinical Epidemiology. 
•    Performing other tasks within the Department of Clinical Epidemiology fields of interest.

Your competences 
•    You have academic qualifications at PhD level within one or more of the following areas: cancer epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, or population health.
•    Several years of experience with epidemiological research is advantageous, including research within breast cancer survivorship.
•    You have a track record of epidemiological cancer research at a high international level. 
•    Demonstrated ability of pharmacoepidemiology and breast cancer is required, including within the field of medication adherence.
•    Knowledge of epidemiologic methods, using data from Danish registries is crucial, particularly socioeconomic and health data.
•    Experience of teaching and supervision of students at undergraduate and graduate level.
•    You have coordinated research projects involving epidemiological, clinical, and biological data and tissue, in a multidisciplinary team of stakeholders, e.g., epidemiologists, biostatisticians, legal staff, and laboratory personnel.
•    Experience with approvals and agreements required for research involving biological material and medical journal data is beneficial.
•    Strong analytical and writing skills and a track record of scientific publications and conference presentation of research.
